The School of Informatics, Computing, and Cyber Systems (SICCS) at Northern Arizona University (NAU) invites applicants for a full-time (9-month) faculty member. This position is non-tenure track at the rank of Lecturer and is renewable based on funding availability, satisfactory performance, and school needs.Arizona residency is required, along with regular in-person attendance at key trainings and meetings at the NAU Flagstaff campus.

Job Description

This position supports new NAU Cybersecurity programs at both the graduate and undergraduate level. Candidates with broad backgrounds in cybersecurity will be considered, with special preference for candidates with backgrounds in secure software and hardware design, and with experience developing and teaching online courses. Teaching assignments may span both undergraduate and graduate classes in SICCS. Student mentoring, participation in department-level service, and course and program level assessment activities for accreditation will also be required. There is no research workload associated with this position.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Earned Bachelor’s degree AND Master's Degree, OR earned PhD, in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned Ph.D. in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field, conferred before the start date of employment,
  • significant professional experience in cybersecurity engineering,
  • teaching experience at the college level in cybersecurity with an emphasis on secure software and/or hardware design,
  • demonstrated experience with online instructional design, effective pedagogy, and innovative learning methodologies,
  • excellent communication skills, and
  • experience working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

General Information

The School of Informatics, Computing, and Cyber Systems (SICCS) at NAU is a vibrant interdisciplinary unit that brings together expertise in cybersecurity engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, eco/environmental informatics, astro-informatics, and bio/health informatics to address many of the key scientific and technological challenges relevant to our modern information-driven society. Our core mission is to integrate interdisciplinary developments in scientific and engineering knowledge around computation, data, and systems with traditional disciplines to drive breakthroughs that address key 21st-century challenges. The roughly 50 faculty in SICCS collaborate to offer a variety of distinctive and innovative undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Background Information

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check.

Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States.

Finally, each year the Northern Arizona University Police Department releases an annual security report. The report is a result of the federal law known as the Clery Act and contains policy statements that address the school’s policies, procedures and programs concerning safety and security including policies for responding to emergency situations and sexual offenses. The report contains three years of data for Clery reportable crime statistics for the campus along with the most current year’s Fire Safety Report, which includes policy statements and fire statistics for Flagstaff on-campus student housing.

Salary is commensurate to qualifications and experience and determined by professional rank at hire.


This is a Faculty (FAC) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP); sick leave accruals and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified family members. Faculty are hired on a contract basis, renewable according to terms of the Conditions of Faculty Service. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment.

If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of employment. The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following 90 days of employment.
